Change
I need to change. HA HA. There is always something that needs changing. For me the most effective way to bring about change is to challenge myself and make it known, so I am held accountable. If I decide to change something and keep it to myself I seem to rarely succeed.
So I love to read, I love to research and sometimes this becomes voracious. I think being at home with my kids all day too, I can be selfish at times with any downtime. Confession, I voraciously read at lunch and breakfast. Be it a book or blogs or researching whatever my next purchase or health move is even good things like spiritual growth books or the bible, but I READ. I never do this at dinner we always have conversation and I enjoy interacting with my kids then. Lately I have been feeling guilty (ie Holy Spirit prompting) about it at lunch. Especially when Seth is trying to tell me some story and I am saying hold on let me finish reading this. What a jerk I am! I think I have justified it because after breakfast (which I also read, see it is selfish) my life is usually insane with school stuff and taking care of the little ones and by the time lunch comes around I want a quiet moment to myself. (Note today we are taking a spring break day off as per Daddy's request so I have some down time to blog.) But honestly, I have had that at breakfast (not willing yet to give that one up as I am NOT a morning person and it is best for all if I read and not talk then if you catch my drift hee hee). But lunch is another story.
So change is a comin to my lunchtime routine. I need to laugh and be present with my kiddos. I need to hear Seth's stories and Jude's dreams and Adelee's ramblings. They are so social and they too have just come off of working hard at school and need to interact. Plus I realize they are getting older. If I don't commit now to hearing them and talking with them and putting them before my selfish desire to have some alone time I am gonna blink and they are gonna be 15 and not want to talk to me but have their nose in a book at lunch. So today I am telling Seth to hold me accountable. Believe me HE is a RULE CZAR so I know that he will lay down the hammer and call me out if I slip. Goodbye books and blogs and reading at lunch....Hello big blue eyed kids, funny stories, jokes and wide smiles!

When we were younger as a break from homeschooling, my Mom would read to us at Lunch. Might be a cool way to integrate reading into interacting with your kids. I love those memories. Plus, she always picked fun books so it was never boring, but instead something we looked forward to. Just an idea : )
-laura (I think we're friends on fb. i go to sgc church in chesapeake)
I, too, am a voracious reader, researcher, fact and stat geek! This didn't occur until a couple of years ago, though. I was more a tv-watching couch potato back then. I do make it a point to try to sit down with my kids at mealtimes to talk with them. I have a bulletin board of spiritual things to talk with them about near where I sit. It seems to be the only consistent spiritual food I give them - and it's not even that consistent! I'm trying. Anyway, I can relate to the struggle. These sweet moments with your little ones are fleeting.
THanks gals. Yesterday was success. It was fun. Seth was so cute and sweet when I told him. I enjoyed our lunch together listening to them tell me all sorts of things. I am normally better at breakfast when not breastfeeding or pregnant which has been awhile......when I am not doing those things I actually make myself get up early do devotions and exercise so by the time my kids are waking and I am eating breakfast with them I am ready to be happy and talk. HA HA Someday that will be the case.....in about a year and a half. HA HA
i love how real you are. enjoy enjoying your precious littles <3 they are such gifts to everyone who meets them! Jesus glows through them all.
I was thinking the same thing today. I always read magazines at lunch. But, no longer. :)
